Described as “darkly funny and understatedly absurd,” Zero Motivation is an irreverent war comedy: in the words of one reviewer, “Private Benjamin meets M*A*S*H, speaks Hebrew, and keeps kosher.”

A unit of young women soldiers, all Israeli conscripts, serve out their time at a remote desert military base playing computer games, singing pop songs, and conspiring to get transferred to Tel Aviv, while endlessly serving coffee to the men who run the show. If there is a war going on, it's one against boredom, bad uniforms, dopey rules, and doing everything in triplicate.
Winner of the top prize for narrative world cinema at the Tribeca Film Festival and recipient of six Ophir awards, Zero Motivation was the top-grossing Israeli film of 2014.

Eyal Tamir is writing a dissertation at UMass Amherst about Jewish comedy in the United States and in Israel. His academic interests include twentieth-century literature, film, and popular culture. He came to Amherst after completing his undergraduate studies at Tel Aviv University.
