CBI Chevruta presents: A mini-course with Joel Kaminsky, Ph.D., Morningstar Family Professor of Jewish Studies, Smith College

We will examine and wrestle with issues such as: the meaning of chosenness, the narrative depiction and legal status of aliens and foreigners, moral issues raised by the command to destroy the Canaanites and Amalek, the place of the Gentile nations in prophetic end time visions, and whether the Bible permitted outsiders to participate in or convert to Israel's religion.

What is CBI Chevruta? CBI Chevruta, from the Hebrew meaning “learning partnership,” is a new initiative to match leading scholars with those who seek an in-depth and collective experience of study. It is open to all who wish to be a part of an intensive study experience that will help cultivate a culture of ongoing learning at CBI and beyond. Our goal is to eventually offer multiple CBI Chevruta mini-courses each year that, over time, cover the entire range of Jewish texts and ideas.

RSVP by December 20 at [email protected] or 413-584-3593 ext. 202

Suggested Donation: $75 for all five sessions
(checks made payable to CBI, Adult Ed./Kaminsky class in memo line)
