“My love of books and drawing led me to the appreciation of calligraphy, beautiful lettering. Poetry, traditional Jewish texts that express the values I was taught since childhood, and other words of inspiration provide the texts for my calligraphic work.

From the borders I drew on my homework booklets from first grade to the decorative aspect of the ketubot and quotations I now letter, I enjoy painting, drawing and papercutting as well. Lately I have added upcycling to my work, making purses, yarmulkes and more items from cloth and jewelry from stones and beads that come my way. I'm pleased to share a portion of my work with you and welcome your comments and inquiries.”

Peggy H. Davis draws inspiration from traditional texts, manuscripts and folk art for her varied work, much of which celebrates Jewish ritual and ceremonial life in home and synagogue. She works on commission and sells her work in her studio gallery, on-line, and in some stores and galleries. She uses watercolor, papercutting, colored pencil, pastel and other media in her work.

Peggy began lettering in 1979 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, studying with local and visiting teachers, studied Hebrew calligraphy with Ismar David in New York, and moved to Massachusetts in 1988, where she studied with Suzanne Moore. Her studio is in an old farmhouse in the rural town of Colrain, where customers are welcome to visit. She is part of Crafts of Colrain, hosting an open studio the second Sunday of November each year.
