Knesset Israel
16 Colt Road
Pittsfield, MA 01201

The Jewish Federation Connecting with Community presents "Soil and Shul - The Story of a Jewish Farm Colony in the Berkshires."

The first Jewish families came to Sandisfield, MA in 1902. The Jewish Agricultural and Industrial Aid Society in New York City planned to create a Jewish agricultural colony in Berkshire County, thereby easing New York's overcrowded Jewish neighborhoods by moving immigrants to rural areas to become farmers.

Join presenter Lorraine German, who has combed through historical records and first-hand accounts, to share the tale of this Jewish farming community,

This free program is part of the Federation’s Connecting With Community Series and will be followed by a kosher hot lunch. Lunch is a $2 suggested donation for adults over 60 years of age or $7 for all others. Advance reservations are required for lunch and can be made by calling (413) 442-2200 before 9 a.m. on the day of the program.
