The debate about how two people could share the same homeland stretches back to the earliest days of the Zionist movement. In this course we will examine the history of this debate, which almost always centered on the notion of partition, or two states. We will examine the arguments for and against division as well as exploring the shifting political alliances behind each proposal.

Aaron Berman is Professor of History at Hampshire College. He has taught courses on the history of Zionism and Palestinian nationalism for many years.
