The goal of this course is to empower students to participate more knowledgeably and comfortably in the Friday evening and Sabbath morning services at the JCA. Basic themes of Jewish prayer will be reviewed along with the evolution of the format of the Reconstructionist siddur (Jewish prayer book). The course will focus on several important prayers and look at their meaning, structure and role in the prayer service. Prayer choreography will be explained, with special focus on the Torah service.

Knowledge of Hebrew is helpful but not required.

A packet of handouts will supplement the classroom sessions.
Students will receive a CD of the singing of prayers that are used at the JCA.
